We create health supporting educational facilities to improve students health and educational outcomes.

By the time a student graduates high school, they will have spent more than 15,000 hours in a school, which is the second longest indoor exposure time after their home. K-12 is a time of critical physiological, social and emotional growth and development, which is susceptible to many indoor conditions including indoor air pollution, mold, elevated noise levels, radon, asbestos, inadequate lighting and more.

A school’s physical environment can play a major role in academic performance. The significant amount of time that students and teachers spend inside schools during their educational career, combined with children's increased susceptibility to indoor pollutants, underscores the importance of high indoor environmental quality.

Eliminating environmental stressors can strengthen students ability to work better by reducing chronic stress, mental fog, fatigue, headaches and allergies that deplete energy and productivity. A healthy school helps to create a relaxed, creative and productive atmosphere and happier students and staff.

The EPA recommends conducting routine inspections of the indoor school environment.

Healthy School Assessment

A Healthy School Assessment consists of a thorough inspection of the educational facility by one of our expert Building Biologists. We assess the essential layers of environmental influences to determine what could negatively effect students health. Environmental influences are identified and measured using our state-of-the-art meters and equipment. Upon inspection we will determine which laboratory testing is needed for the environment.

Environmental Testing Services

We offer a wide array of environmental testing services for K-12 schools and Universities. An environmental assessment may include:

EMF Testing

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Testing

Radon Testing

Water Testing

Mold Inspection / Mold Testing

Sound and Vibration Testing

Toxic Chemicals Audit

What to Expect:

  • Depending on the environment, the length and depth of the assessment process will vary.

  • Assessment Report - we provide a comprehensive report about our discoveries, so that informed choices can be made to create a healthy school. The report will be emailed once all laboratory testing is completed.

Mitigation Consultation

Once the Healthy School Assessment is complete and you have received the comprehensive reports, the next step is to eliminate the environmental issues. We help you to create a mitigation plan that is customized to your needs and budget. We consult with you about products, materials and offer support to contractors or any other professionals needed. We can consult with principals, janitors and staff to guide and support the most beneficial outcome.

Maintaining School Health

Over time, external and internal environmental factors can shift and change. Periodic tune-up visits are recommended to ensure that the space continues to remain healthy. We determine if any adjustments are needed and help facilitate them, as well as provide education and support to enhance the space to support staff and students.
